How to verify these claims:

  • [1] Cloud Storage & Accounts: Verified via Flo's onboarding screens (requiring email/registration), Clue's account creation policy, and Stardust's signup requirements. All three store database records on remote cloud servers to manage user sessions.
  • [2] Ad & Analytics Trackers: Confirmed via the official Apple App Store App Privacy declarations and Google Play Store safety labels. Flo lists data used to track you (device IDs, advertising data), Clue discloses tracking via Adjust and Google SDKs, and Stardust's manifest integrates third-party tools.
  • [3] Flo FTC Case: The Federal Trade Commission finalized an order in June 2021 settling allegations that Flo Health shared users' private health information with third-party advertising companies. View the official FTC Press Release.
  • [4] Subpoenas & Law Enforcement: Cloud-stored databases are subject to third-party subpoena laws. In 2022, Stardust's privacy policy stated it would comply with law enforcement even without a warrant (see Vice Investigation). Clue and Flo operate as central cloud-custodians under German and US jurisdiction.
  • [5] Mozilla Privacy Audit (Stardust): Mozilla Foundation's Privacy Not Included review gave Stardust a 2/10 privacy rating, finding that sensitive health data, pregnancy status, and symptom logs are shared with third-party analytics (RudderStack) and advertising identifiers with Meta/Facebook by default without opt-out options. Read the Mozilla Foundation Stardust Privacy Review.
  • [6] Verify Luna Locally: Turn on Airplane Mode — cycle predictions, logs, and exports function perfectly. You can run network auditing tools (like Charles Proxy or Proxyman) to confirm zero network requests are sent during regular cycle tracking.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about Luna's privacy, features, and how it works.

By default, Luna stores your logs strictly on your physical phone. When you want a safety copy, you export an encrypted backup file yourself. Here is how Luna's backup options compare:

1. Data Selling (Will brokers buy my records?)

  • 100% Local: 100% safe. Your data never leaves your physical device.
  • Device Transfer Mode: Built for occasional backups and phone moves. Keep the encrypted .lbk file somewhere only you control.
  • Private Vault Mode: Built for maximum backup privacy. Your 12-word phrase becomes the vault door for the exported file.

2. Advertising Profiling (Will I get targeted baby ads?)

  • 📱 Local, Device Transfer Mode, and 🔑 Private Vault Mode: Luna contains zero advertising trackers. No cycle information is shared with ad networks.

3. Subpoenas & Legal Access (Can courts force the release of my logs?)

  • 100% Local: 100% safe. Luna has no servers and no user databases. If subpoenaed, we have nothing to hand over.
  • Device Transfer Mode: A practical encrypted backup for restores and device changes. Luna still has no server-side cycle database to hand over.
  • Private Vault Mode: The strongest backup option. Your exported file is locked on-device with your 12-word recovery phrase before you store or move it.
Luna operates 100% locally on your phone out of the box — we do not run databases or corporate cloud servers. For everyday peace of mind, use Device Transfer Mode to export an encrypted .lbk file you can save and move yourself. For your most sensitive archives, use Private Vault Mode so the backup is sealed with your 12-word recovery phrase and unreadable without it.
